Learner Manual

How to sign up, take courses, complete quizzes, and earn certificates on Legal Risk Alert.

Last updated: 14 min read

1. Create your account

You can create a free account in under a minute.

  1. Open the app and choose Sign up.
  2. Enter your work email address and a strong password, or continue with Google.
  3. Confirm your email if prompted, then complete your profile.

Your profile details are private by default. You control what appears on any public learner page.

2. Sign in and recover access

Use the same method you used at sign-up. If you forget your password:

  1. On the sign-in page choose Forgot password.
  2. Enter your email and open the reset link we send you.
  3. Set a new password and sign in again.

If the reset email does not arrive within a few minutes, check your spam folder and confirm you used the correct address.

3. Find a course

The catalog lists every course you can enroll in. You can filter by topic, format (cohort or self-paced) and level. Each course page shows what you will learn, how long it takes, and the modules included.

4. Enroll and entitlements

You can gain access to a course in three ways:

  • Direct enrollment — a one-time purchase for a single course.
  • Subscription — access to everything included in your plan.
  • Organization seat — assigned by your employer or association.

Your current access is listed under My learning.

5. Take a lesson

Open a course, then choose the next lesson from the module list. When you finish, select Mark complete. Your progress is saved automatically and syncs across devices.

6. Notes and bookmarks

The notebook stores your personal notes for every module. Bookmark a lesson to jump back to it later from the notebook or your dashboard.

7. Quizzes and retakes

Quizzes appear after the lessons in a module. You can retake a quiz if you do not pass on the first try. Your best score is recorded.

8. Certificates

When every lesson and quiz in a course is complete, your certificate is issued automatically. Download it as a PDF or share the verification link on a professional profile.

9. Calendar and live sessions

If your course includes live sessions, they appear in the in-app calendar with a link to join. All times are shown in your local time zone.

10. Discussions

Every course has a discussion board. In a cohort you can also open private threads visible only to your cohort or organization, or public threads visible to all learners.

  • Use the Report action on any post that breaches the code of conduct.
  • New posts are checked by an AI moderation pass; borderline content is queued for a human moderator before it appears.
  • Subscribe to a thread to receive replies in your notification centre.

11. Glossary and margin notes

Highlighted terms in lessons show a plain-English definition on hover or tap. Use margin notes to add your own explanation or question next to a passage — notes are private to you unless you share them with your cohort.

12. AI Tutor and study help

The AI Tutor answers questions about the lesson you are on and can suggest practice questions. It is a study aid — not legal advice — and its output should be cross-checked against the source material and, where relevant, a qualified professional in your jurisdiction. Chats are stored to your account so you can review them later; you can delete any chat from Account → Privacy.

13. Course ratings and reviews

Once you complete a course you can leave a 1–5 star rating and an optional written review. Reviews are public and attributed to your display name; you can edit or delete yours at any time.

14. Learning paths

Learning paths bundle several courses into an ordered journey. Enroll from the path page; your progress across every course is shown in one place, and a path certificate is issued when you complete the full sequence.

16. Weekly goals and study reminders

Under My learning, set a weekly minutes goal and pick which days you want a reminder. Your streak counter shows consecutive weeks in which you met your goal. Reminders are opt-in and easy to turn off.

17. Notification centre

The bell icon in the top bar lists your unread notifications. Open Notifications for the full history and to mark items as read. You can control which notification types you receive from Account → Notifications.

18. Book a virtual meeting

When a study group or 1:1 coaching call is easier live, use the Book a virtual meeting button in the header, footer, or on your course page. It takes you to our /virtual-meeting page, where you can learn how the companion scheduling product works — cost, privacy, devices — and open it from there. No new sign-up is required on Legal Risk Alert for a one-off meeting.

19. Language, dates, and currency

Dates and times are shown in your local time zone using your browser's language settings. Prices are displayed in the currency of the price book that applies to your region. Change your browser language to switch the formatting immediately.

20. Troubleshooting and support

Common fixes:

  • Refresh the page and try again.
  • Sign out and sign back in to refresh your session.
  • Try a different browser or device.

Still stuck? Use the help widget in the app or email support. Include your account email and a short description of what happened.
